What is IGAP?
The Infrastructure Grant Assistance Program (IGAP) is available to all Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) communities and supports Ohio local governments pursuing federal funding for clean energy and clean transportation projects.
It is a new technical assistance program to make Ohio cities and counties more competitive for federal grants that will further our collective goal of expanding Ohio’s clean energy economy and reducing emissions.
Addressing Barriers, Funding Our Futures
The PCFO team has assessed the challenges that local governments have experienced in pursuing federal funding sources. Through this process, we have identified direct, tangible, high-impact resources that PCFO will use to support PCFO member communities in pursuing federal funding opportunities.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $2.5 billion for communities and corridors through a nationwide competitive grant program that will ensure EV charger deployment supports rural charging, improves local air quality, and increases EV charging access in disadvantaged communities.
Our approach to developing IGAP ensures the right resources are deployed to meet the current needs of local governments. Here is what we learned:
Cut the noise. Local governments need digestible, timely, straightforward summaries of grant opportunities. We aim to educate and inform your government leaders and staff.
Find alignment. Local governments will invest time and money in grant applications and programs when they know they are a good fit and the funding priorities align with their own.
Compete to win. For competitive grants, local governments need support in improving the competitiveness of their proposals and project scopes. Research and editing from PCFO’s team can help get them there.
Break the pattern. Those with the most resources more easily distinguish themselves for competitive funding. In living our mission, PCFO will prioritize our support to historically under-represented communities that have not been able to compete for federal grants in the past due to a lack of resources and capacity.
Check the blindspot. Looking at the same project proposal and set of problems for too long results in blindspots where we miss opportunities for innovation, regional collaboration, or non-traditional partners.
Bring a plan. Communities that have planned for this work will succeed. Working with PCFO to create a sustainability plan or climate action plan will set your local government up for success in pursuing projects that further the goals of a community-driven plan to lower emissions and transition to clean energy.
In 2021, Congress passed and President Biden signed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law. This bipartisan infrastructure bill presents an opportunity for local and state governments to invest in the electric grid, clean energy, transportation systems, broadband, water infrastructure, energy efficiency, and more.
